Accepting the divine will

0

Accepting the divine will as it is, is not easy for us. Sacred History is a record of the efforts of people to govern God's universe by merely human regulations. The prophets who spoke in God's name were generally rejected. Humble persons of simple faith, of whom Abraham is a prominent example, have always been relatively few.

Mary, the mother of Jesus, was a true daughter of Abraham. She believed in the promises made to him as she testified in the Magnificat. Joseph was a true son of Abraham. As foster father of Jesus and spouse of Mary, Joseph was responsible in the style of his day for the support of their home and, we may reasonably suppose, its physical maintenance. He was a man who worked with his hands and an example for workers. God's kingdom is peopled by persons of simple faith who do what comes to hand, making their contribution to the building up of the world and its restoration through Jesus.

Prayer:

When I see my life and work as insignificant, Lord, remind me of the ordinary lives of those extraordinary people whom you chose to be closest to yourself. May Mary and Joseph teach me how to love you.
