All healing is a liberating

0

St. Paul wrote: “It was for liberty that Christ freed us” (Gal 5). St. John tells us: “If the Son frees you, you will really be free” (Jn 8). All healing is a liberating whether from physical, mental or moral bondage, though the greatest slavery remains the slavery of sin and moral defect in general.

Jesus liberates from moral bondage by allowing us to experience our own frailty; thus we become ready to learn humility and become honest with ourselves. He invites trust so that we become willing to risk with him at our side. He calls us to a moment of decision, or many moments of decision, to follow his lead: Lord, what would you have me be and do?—not forever, not tomorrow, but rather here and now —on this day, at this moment. Thus we find that “for which we are freed”—to live wisely, lovingly and in close communion with God and the family in which God has placed us.

Prayer:

Lord, once I thought I was free when I did whatever I pleased. When my illusion collapsed you began to teach me that true freedom is being one with the mind and heart of God, who is supremely free. Bring me to the fullness of that freedom.
