Christian communities

Jesus said: “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who lives in me and I in him, will produce abundantly, for apart from me you can do nothing” (Jn 15). The very Person of Jesus is the center of our faith and the power behind our ministry. He gives grace and only by grace will our ministry be effective.

Our ministry will be effective to the extent that it is joined with the ministry of others in the Church, with which Jesus identifies himself. The “People of God” are also the “Body of Christ.” For each of us, to be an authentic Christian means to be bonded with our particular Christian communities. The bond and its effectiveness do not cease when we are prevented by illness or infirmity from being active in the world. After all, almost everyone becomes old, and everyone is sometimes sick. All members of our Christian community are members of the one People of God. All of us share in its graces. All of us are part of its witness, though in different roles.

Prayer:

Lord, you called us to be one, because divine love means unity. Help me to be a peacemaker, who fosters unity within my own Christian community.
