Dreams for the future

0

Our dreams for the future can be very useful, for without such dreams it is unlikely that we would persevere in any difficult task. When the dreams are false there is bound to be disillusionment when we reach our goal. When the dream is true we find fulfillment. Now and again, God may ask us to abandon a dream or at least abandon the only possible road to the fulfillment of a dream. That is exactly what he did in the journey of Abraham. God had promised that his son Isaac would become the patriarch of a great nation; then God told Abraham to sacrifice Isaac (Gen 22). This is a mysterious passage of the Bible. Abraham was told to sacrifice not only a son but a dream given by God in the first place.

We too are sometimes called upon to make great acts of faith. Work we have undertaken for God may come to nothing. It is precisely at such a moment that we need the faith of Abraham. God in the end will certainly fulfill his covenant.

Prayer:

I believe, Lord, that you will keep your word by which you called me to follow you and to undertake the work I try to do in your name. Keep me faithful to you.
