Dwelling on our oneness with God

0

The early Church saw itself as seated at the right hand of God in Jesus. It was a resurrected Church, in some way already lifted into the heavens. It also knew that it was a Church made up of very flawed people. We celebrate our belief that Jesus is now at the right hand of his Father and that we are a redeemed people in spite of ongoing temptations and other trials. This is a reason for hope not complacency. We hope that Jesus will lead us to our destination past all the temptations and even occasional failures. Among the graces which he merited for us is the grace of repentance.

Dwelling on our sins is not a particularly healthy exercise unless we need to shake ourselves up so that we will repent and change. It is all too easy to become obsessed with sin. We are more likely to improve and avoid sin by dwelling on our oneness with God. We are brothers and sisters of Jesus who has risen and ascended to the Father and would have us behave as his brothers and sisters.

Prayer:

Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ, for lifting me up to your Father and giving me a share in the very life of God. Help me live this day as a true child of God.
