Every disciple is a “deputy shepherd”

0

Jesus called himself the Good Shepherd (Jn 10). At the time and place he said this a shepherd led his flock attracting them by his voice. Each sheep knew its shepherd's voice. The truth in us hears the truth in Jesus. He comes to us through the gate of honesty rather than over the fence. The honesty in our own hearts responds to the honesty in Jesus.

We need to believe that he is trustworthy and loves us. He calls each of us by name. We recognize his deep concern for us. Foolish sheep wander after strangers, Jesus' sheep do not. Foolish sheep can become wise and enter the flock of Jesus. This wisdom can come only from the gift of God.

Every disciple is a “deputy shepherd.” Whether as parent, minister or in any other role our voice needs to be Jesus' voice. It is enough for us to call in Jesus' name and let God's grace do the rest.

Prayer:

I hear your voice, Lord Jesus. I recognize your love and concern for me. Make my voice a true echo of yours so that others may come to know you and love you.
