Free to be fully alive

0

We are free to live, that is, we are free to be fully alive. We are free not to do the things which have in the past kept many of us from being fully alive. Sins and addictions in particular have been ruthless slave-masters. Perhaps then we thought we were free to sin or to satisfy an addiction. The fact is, we had diminished our freedom. We had come to the point where if we didn't obey the slave-master within ourselves we would be miserable—and when we did obey the slave-master we were miserable. What sort of  freedom kept us in a cage condemned to the hard labor of satisfying insatiable appetites?

Now, we are free to live. For those of us who are disciples of Jesus the name of our deliverer is known to us. His name is Jesus, which means “savior.” We know him as savior, not only by rumor; we know him from our own encounter with him while we were still living in the cage, laboring to destroy ourselves. He called us and set us free. He led us by the hand into a new life.

Prayer:

Lord, let me never forget my past. I want never to return to the past. Lead me into a future which is more and more free. Bring me to the fullness of life.
