Free to love

0

When we look at the world in our day, we see persons with great wealth and power enslaving whole peoples. We see nations who have struggled for political freedom, now enslaved by corrupt leaders of their own. We see little people, many of whom pride themselves on their independence, while bound hand and foot by drugs. We see a prosperous generation whose lives have no meaning, enslaved by their passions, hollow in spirit. We see multitudes bound by their resentments in chains of bitterness. Jesus came to set us all free so that we could be free to love.

St. Paul wrote: “It was for liberty that Christ freed us” (Gal 5). And St. John said: “If the Son frees you, you will really be free” (Jn 8). The greatest slavery is the slavery of sin; however, Jesus is concerned also with all other kinds of enslavement. He wants us to be totally free particularly within our own hearts. External freedom is important, but inner freedom is more necessary.

Prayer:

I believe in you as my personal liberator, Lord. When I was bound hand and foot by my sins and other enslavement, you reached out to me to deliver me. Continue to deliver me during this day.
