Life is a journey

0

Life is a journey. On one level we can see it: childhood, youth, our prime, our senior years —family life, work, hopes and dreams for the future. On another deeper level it is invisible, yet quite real: to be is God's gift—to be redeemed is God's gift—to come to our immortal goal is God's gift. For those who believe life is a journey of faith.

Abraham on his journey was perplexed when asked to sacrifice Isaac (Gen 22). What was God up to? Yet he followed God's lead. Paul ran into a lot of problems. Yet he could say: “If God is for us, who can be against us” (Rom 8). On the mountain Jesus gave his apostles a preview of what God had in mind for them: a glory beyond anything they could achieve for themselves (Mt 17). So too, some days we are perplexed; other days we struggle; now and again we have a glimpse of peace and joy beyond all our ordinary experience.

Prayer:

You lead me, Lord, in the way that you know will bring me to my final destination. I acknowledge that I am not better than Abraham or Paul, so that my journey should be free of troubles. I believe you will bring me to a transfiguration.
