Moment of decision

0

How does Jesus liberate? He allows us to experience our own frailty; when self-will fails we are ready to learn humility and become honest with ourselves. He invites our trust so that we become willing to risk, with him at our side. He calls us to a moment of decision, or many moments of decision, to follow his lead: Lord, what would you have me be and do? —not forever, not tomorrow, but rather here and now, on this day, at this moment.

“Letting go and letting God” seems, to the proud, to be a kind of slavery, when, in fact, it is liberation from the slavery of self-will. There is no slave-master like the self! It takes many forms: habits of sin, e.g., the driving power of resentment; the self-will and self-reliance of the addict; a fear rooted in that same excessive self-reliance. When we are weaned we can be more single-hearted for the Lord. As free spirits we can show others how they also can find freedom. That is a gift of love.

Prayer:

Lord, set me free from whatever hinders me from becoming the disciple that I can be, with your grace. Set me free to love you and my brothers and sisters.
