Our morning “Quiet Time”

0

Our morning “Quiet Time” gives us an opportunity to collect our minds and hearts for the coming day. It is a time for us to prepare to make progress in our relationships with God and others. It is a time to make plans to meet challenges which are likely to occur. It is a time merely to be at peace. Some people never slow down. They wear themselves out, running in circles. That isn't smart for anyone let alone a person who is trying to find his or her spiritual balance.

We all offer some particular prayers for this or that. We pray to prepare ourselves to be open to God's gifts. Of all God's gifts the greatest is himself; the next, his daily guidance. We pray to discover his will for us, as best we can, and for the power to carry it out. Perfect prayer is the prayer of the “poor in spirit” who always follow God's lead as we decided to do early in our spiritual journey. Thus we pray that God will heal our faults and make us into true disciples of Jesus.

Prayer:

Lord, the apostles asked you to teach them to pray. The centerpiece of your reply is “Thy will be done.” Teach me how to pray.
