Peace of heart

0

When we are distressed in spirit and body we may fall into great sadness and wonder if we will ever again have the peace of heart we so much desire. At such times it is good to remember that Jesus felt sadness in the Garden. We can have Jesus' peace deep within us even while we suffer in mind and body, though we may not feel it through our pain. Our faith and hope are greater than any affliction. Down deep inside we trust the Lord and realize that in the end he will bring us through every passing trial—to become victorious as he was victorious.

We may also fear that we will relapse into old failings and old enslavements so as to ease our distress. Sometimes we walk on the edge of former sins and addictions. We are aware that, left to ourselves, we have no security. This fear is actually protective. Moreover we need to believe that if he has brought us this far, he will not abandon us now.

Prayer:

I do trust you, Lord. Like the man in the Gospel, I pray: Help my unbelief. You will not abandon me, not because of any-thing I have done, but because you have decided to save me. I believe you have the power and that you love me.
