Stand up and walk

0

Often Jesus told those whom he would heal: “Stand up!” or “Take up your pallet and walk” (Jn 5). When we try to heal ourselves, we often fail. Moreover even when we succeed, pride is likely to cancel any spiritual benefit from our healing. When Jesus heals there is no ground for pride. Still we have a role. We are called to have the faith to stand up and walk.

Jesus expects us also to put up with some discomfort. The temptation to pamper ourselves may be strong. He asks us to be strong even when we feel weak. Jesus is at hand to support us. He is a very considerate friend.

Worrying about an hour from now or a day from now or a month from now is a common hazard in the way of taking our first few steps in freedom. Our anticipation of failure becomes an excuse for failure. Jesus would have us believe that it is enough to let him take care of the future.

Prayer:

I stand up and walk this day, Lord, because you have asked me to do so. Walk with me. Lead me to the fullness of freedom and life in you.
