The Center of Our Community

0

The fact that the Lord calls us to share the Eucharist in common worship can obscure the fact that the abiding of Jesus in the Eucharist is the center of our community at all times. For in everything we do we share the same source of life and the same enduring love. Jesus' purpose, as he himself made so clear, is to imbue all with a sense of being brothers and sisters. The Lord did not want only a one-on-one relationship to flow from his gift of himself in this sacrament. The proof of how well we have acquired a healthy relationship with Jesus in the Eucharist is the manner in which we relate to our brothers and sisters.

It is, of course, easy to love One who is perfect and very difficult to love people who are imperfect. By ourselves we would not succeed. That is precisely why Jesus has not left us to ourselves. That is precisely why he has given us the Eucharist.

Prayer:

When I reach out to others, Lord, let the power of your love in the Eucharist inspire me and support me. I pray that your attitudes may become my own. Little by little, transform my heart till it becomes like yours.
