The simple humanity of Jesus

0

The crowds surge around Jesus: Who is he? What is he doing now? / He is going to raise the dead, a little girl. / What nonsense! / Look, that woman is touching him; I wonder if I could ever believe like that? / He calls himself a Teacher but he is not different from us. How could God have chosen him? Who does he think he is?

Jesus hears and does not hear. He hears the cry of pain. He does not hear anything that could prevent him from being his Father's loving outreach. We see Jesus through 2000 years of Christian history and with a developed faith. Unfortunately we also pay a price for this knowledge. We lose the Freshness, the direct touch and perhaps a sense of the simple humanity of Jesus. The first disciples didn't ask deep questions. For them Jesus was a healer, a liberator and, above all, exceedingly concerned and kind. They knew him as someone who had touched them and touched their hearts.

Prayer:

The knowledge of you that strengthens me in daily life, Lord, is knowing that you love me. I want to know more about you. However let me never forget that what matters most is your love for me.
