Unassailable peace

0

After the resurrection, a profound change occurred in Jesus' manner of speaking and acting. Before the passion Jesus was often distressed by the trials of his ministry. His manner was that of a person immersed in a very difficult mission reaching for a goal not yet attained. In his passion he could even become desolate. After the resurrection he radiates unassailable peace. The work that had led up to the resurrection had been completed. Now he would indeed continue to work through his Church and even, in a mysterious way, suffer in his disciples. Yet the transformed Jesus could never again be distressed or suffer as he had before and during his passion.

After the resurrection almost every meeting begins with a greeting of peace. Jesus is very much aware that we need his peace now while we are still in a time of distress and suffering. His peace is not merely a reward for faithfulness to him; it is a necessary means to arriving at our own goal.

Prayer:

Lord, I ask for your peace not merely because I desire a feeling of peace but also because I need peace of heart to remain faithful to you.
