Uncertain

0

When old or sick we may pray: “What am I to do? I don't know what will happen next. Long ago, I gave myself to you, Lord. Now, I am uncertain; the future is uncertain; I am not quite sure of where I am going or of what to do. Help me, Lord!”

When young and healthy, we may be unwilling to face ourselves. When infirm, we have more opportunity to reflect, and fear and sadness may emerge from the depths of our souls. This is the time of our real giving. Still we may ask: “Have I fulfilled my destiny?; Have I been cleansed of ancient sins?; What will I say when I face God?”

At such moments we need to remember: that most people do not reach their goals, yet God loves them; that God's forgiveness doesn't depend on our memories; and that none of us can come before God and boast of what he or she had done.

Prayer:

I believe, Lord, that when I am infirm you do not abandon me. I believe you are by my side. You are not looking for excuses to punish me. I trust in your mercy and abandon myself to you.
