What is my worth?

0

We want to be human beings with dignity and worth. We want to be free. Near the end of our spiritual journey any of us may ask: What is my worth? Here I am an old body, an old mind, some old sins—are they my worth?

The glory of the Lord has shone on us. We are like God because God has made us so. Every crippled, pagan beggar is like God, an imaging of God's wisdom and freedom from the hour of creation. Can a disciple of Jesus be less so?

Our likeness to God is greater because we live in union with Jesus who lives in union with his Father through the Holy Spirit. Jesus has said that he is the vine and we are the branches (Jn 15). Apart from him we have only our mortal natures. When we are united with the vine we and what we do have immortal worth.

Prayer:

Lord, remind me this day and every day that I am not my own, that you have called me to be yours. What I do will be both human and divine only when it is your work. You are the vine; I am the branch. Your grace flows in me and through me when I remember what I am and what I am not apart from you.
